Pamoja for Kenya’s Public Service

Pamoja is uniquely positioned to support Kenya’s public services by advancing the goals of the Mental Health (Amendment) Act 2022 and the National Mental Health Policy (2020–2030).

Pamoja aims to train the army, police and other first responders with mental health expertise to respond confidently to mental health crises in the community. Pamoja also provides mental wellbeing services for first responders who are the backbone of national delivery, yet they face intense workloads, high public expectations, and increased exposure to stress, anxiety, and trauma.

Pamoja’s contribution:

Capacity Building: We equip frontline public service workers — from teachers, police officers, and health workers to county officials — with evidence-based skills in mental health awareness, trauma-informed practice, and safeguarding.

Wellbeing & Resilience: Through targeted workshops and peer-support frameworks, we strengthen resilience within public institutions, reducing burnout, absenteeism, and turnover.

Safeguarding in Institutions: We help public bodies implement inclusive safeguarding policies, ensuring protection for vulnerable groups (women, children, people with disabilities, and migrants) in line with the Constitution of Kenya and the 2022 Act.

Culturally Sensitive Interventions: Our approach honours Kenya’s diversity, ensuring interventions are relevant to the social and cultural realities of public service employees.

Positioning Statement:
"Pamoja partners with Kenya’s public service to strengthen mental health resilience, protect staff wellbeing, and embed safeguarding as a cornerstone of effective governance. By aligning with national policies and the Mental Health Act 2022, Pamoja provides tailored training and support that empowers public servants to deliver with compassion, resilience, and accountability — ensuring a healthier workforce, stronger institutions, and a safer Kenya for all."
